Location: Kodakara Grama Panchayat is situated in the Mukundapuram Taluk of Thrissur District, Kerala, spanning an area of 21.29 square kilometres across 19 wards.

Boundaries: It is bordered by Mattathur and Kodassery to the east; Mattathur, Muriyad, and Parappookkara to the north; Alur and Mooriyad to the west; and Chalakudy Municipality, Alur, and Kodassery to the south.

History: Prior to 1952, Kodakara and Mattathur existed together as a single, combined Panchayat.

Geography: National Highway 47 intersects the center of the village, which features a varied landscape of small hills, valleys, and extensive plains.

Agriculture: The region's major agricultural cultivation includes paddy, coconut, arecanut, pepper, yam, and ginger.

Etymology: Legend says the name derived from "Kodukkatha kara" (meaning "land not given away") because the Karthas of Panthalloor Madham refused to cede it to the Karthas of Kodassery.
